The Beatitudes
In Christianity, the Beatitudes are the set of teachings by Jesus that begin "Blessed are...", and appear in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. The term beatitude comes from the Latin adjective beātitūdō which means "happy", "fortunate", or "blissful". But the term "blessed" has a meaning beyond mere "happiness" or "joy"; it is defined here as an "exclamation of the inner joy and peace that comes with being right with God"
